MBA Senior Academy
|
Students in the Senior Academy receive extensive staff guidance and support, and an academic program that inspires them to achieve at high levels. The Senior Academy offers a framework that helps students become responsible, informed citizens of their school and their community. Academic Majors: Academic majors will be implemented into the curricular structure of the school. All students will be required to declare an academic major by the end of their 10th grade year. This academic focus will allow students to specialize in an area of interest (Business Information Technology, Health Sciences, Language Law and Government) during the 11th and 12th grade years. Academic majors will also drive the students’ academic elective focus and their internship and post-secondary transition during 11th and 12th grades. Literacy and Numeracy: MBA is committed to building and developing reading, writing, and math skills in grades 9 through 11. Courses in Literacy and Numeracy will supplement the general education classes and will provide leveled skill instruction ranging from basic knowledge of reading and math to advanced research and calculation. In grades 11 and 12 students will take a variety of challenging and interest-focused academic electives to further supplement our core curriculum (see Academic Majors, above). Academic Support Program: It is essential to the success of our students and of our school that we provide an intensive, comprehensive, and mandatory student support program. This program features both Saturday and after-school support for all students. A variety of academic and participatory metrics will be used to assign students to the program. MBA students are enrolled in this program when they do not meet performance standards for attendance, academic performance, homework completion, and/or participation. Students are entered into the program for a minimum of one academic quarter, and are continuously re-assessed throughout their tenure. |
