INTERNSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW CURRICULUM AND COURSEWORK The Internship Program is comprised of two components: an 8-week Job Skills Training course and a 12-week Job Site Placement. JOB SKILLS TRAINING This course meets once a week for 8 weeks and aims to prepare students to enter the workplace with confidence and an understanding of how to accomplish their future goals in the professional world. Professionals from the community will present a variety of workshops on workplace skills and professional development. Topics Covered: Self-Assessment Interviewing Resume Development Office Culture Understanding Your Workplace Time Management Communication Business Ethics Finding a Job Networking JOB SITE PLACEMENT Job Site Placement occurs twice weekly for 12 weeks following Job Skills Training. The emphasis is on applying skills developed through classroom instruction, exploring career opportunities, and learning new career competencies at the internship site. The Internship is unpaid. Before starting their placement, interns will create a list of goals for their experience with their site supervisor. It is the responsibility of both the site supervisor and the internship coordinator to ensure that these goals are met. The internship coordinator will make visits to the workplace to monitor the progress of the intern and help manage the experience for both the site supervisor and intern. While participating in the program students will complete a variety of assignments designed to help them strengthen their understanding of the workplace, and to help identify their own talents, skills and abilities. The experience will have a culminating project in which students will make a presentation detailing the work they did at their respective job sites. CONTACT The Internship Coordinator will perform an introductory onsite meeting with the prospective Site Supervisor and discuss details of the internship. Potential interns will have the opportunity to interview with site supervisors. Interns will be matched to job sites based on both site supervisor preferences and student interests.
